Sarahlyn Bruck, author of the beautiful Designer You

Today I welcome Sarahlyn Bruck to authors SUPPORTING authors, and I can't wait to share her with you!!

Hello! My name is Sarahlyn Bruck and I’m the author of Designer You, my debut contemporary women’s fiction novel which just released August 31, 2018. I live in Philadelphia with my husband, daughter, and cockapoo. When I’m not writing, I teach writing and literature full time at a local community college. I’m also a book coach. I enjoy long distance running and watching my daughter crush it on the soccer field.

My book is traditionally published, but through a small press—Crooked Cat Books. I loved how hands-on and supportive they’ve been as I navigate marking and publicity. I learned my job is far from done after I type the words, “The End.”

The Kindle and paperback versions are available on Amazon:

Readers can also find paperback copies at Barnes & Noble, Indiebound, and my local, independent bookstore Penn Book Center.

Who are your favorite authors/writers to follow on social media?  Please give us 3-5, so we can follow them too!

I follow so many, but Stephen King’s tweets are always on point. He can be poignant, political, hilarious… There’s good reason he’s a national treasure! I also love to follow Jennifer Weiner on Instagram and Twitter. She’s a women’s fiction queen and also a Philadelphia local! And she’s just so smart and funny. Roxane Gay is another favorite. She tells the truth even when it hurts. I adore her.

Which authors/writers do you find the most supportive on social media?  You know, the ones who are always cheering you on, retweeting your posts, and all around wonderful people.

I feel so lucky, because I belong to multiple author tribes. Since my debut released this year, I’m part of the Authors ’18 group, which is made up of authors who write adult fiction and are debuting traditionally-published novels during 2018. We cross-promote and cheer each other on and lean on each other when things aren’t going the way we had planned. I am so grateful to this group. One longstanding group is my Pitch Wars class from 2015. We’re on social media and pumping each other up every day. I’m also a member of Women’s Fiction Writers Association (WFWA), which is a group basically created for women’s fiction authors to support women’s fiction authors. And my fellow Crooked Cat Books authors (“Cats” as we refer to each other) are also a great source. We share tips and cross promote as well! And of course my close writer and industry friends—Elizabeth LaBan, Jennifer Klepper, Dawn Ius, Margarita Montimore, Cindy Fazzi, Laura Heffernan, Penny Nelson, Joanne Mason—I don’t know what I would do without them!

I love hosting authors on my blog and mentioning favorites in my newsletter as well as giving shout outs on social media. Teaming up for events and giveaways is always fun and helps all of us out.

I just want to say thank you, Jess! This blog is such a beautiful idea—connecting authors and showing how we’re all in it together. I love it.

You are so very welcome, Sarahlyn.  Thank you for coming on and sharing with us today.  I'm so happy to be in the writer's community with you.
