Val and I have gotten to know each other through our mutual publisher, Crooked Cat books. I'm so happy to share her with you today!!
Who are you? Tell us your name, any recently or soon-to-be published books, and what you’re all about.
Hi Jess! Thank you for inviting me to visit your blog. I am Val Penny, an American author living in SW Scotland with my husband and two cats. I write crime novels, The Edinburgh Crime Mysteries published by Crooked Cat Books. The novels are set in Edinburgh, which is a beautiful city that I know well. My main protagonist is a police detective, DI Hunter Wilson: I like the word play of a detective being called Hunter. The first two novels in the series, published in 2018, are Hunter's Chase and Hunter's Revenge. The third novel Hunter's Force, will be published in 2019.
Indie or Traditional? Or somewhere in between? Tell us how you’re getting your books out into the world.
Crooked Cat Books are a small, independent publishing house that publishes on a traditional model. They produce both paperbacks and e-books. I enjoy promoting my novels: sharing them with readers all over the world through personal and online events. I am continually overwhelmed by the generosity of fellow authors as they share their time and expertise to help each other promote their books.
Where can we buy your books?? Links please!
My books are sold by The Edinburgh Bookshop, Saltcoats Library and Barnes & Noble. However, they are probably most easily ordered and delivered to your door by Amazon:
Who are your favorite authors/writers to follow on social media? Please give us 3-5, so we can follow them too!
Which authors/writers do you find the most supportive on social media? You know, the ones who are always cheering you on, retweeting your posts, and all around wonderful people.
Most authors are supportive of other writers and I am lucky to know many talented and supportive authors including the historical fiction writer, John Jackson and the crime writer Jo Fenton. I also enjoy support from Nina Romano, Patricia Suter and William G Evans. I am very fortunate.
What have you done (or do you do) to show support to your fellow authors? We’re always looking for more ways to help lift each other up!
I regularly retweet, like and share news important to fellow authors. I also enjoy taking part in book launches with fellow authors, hosting authors and reviewing books on my blog www.bookreviewstoday.info.I also regularly take part in blog tours run for other authors by Love Book Group Tours.
Anything else you’d like to share? A story of support? Your favorite book? Favorite blog? Add anything extra here.
I was overcome when one of my favourite authors, Michael Jecks, stated that he considered my novels to be on a par with those by Ian Rankin, Alex Gray and Quintin Jardine: then, when the wonderful author Erin Kelly also rated my work, I was ecstatic.
Thank you for joining us today, Val. I can't wait to check out the authors you've suggested.
Next week, I'll introduce you to Sarahlyn Bruck.
